Burnley Team Huddle v Wolves
Will Lambert

For 40 minutes, we saw what a Nicky Hayen side was about, yet it's the other 50 we remember most

If football matches were played over 40 minutes, we'd have been talking about Burnley's performance against Wolves being one of the strongest of the season, but an all-too-typical collapse sits the fore instead.

For all the justified disappointment after Friday night’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves, a positive opening 40 minutes has somewhat been lost in the fallout for Burnley.

Naturally, in a results based business, no one cares about screenshots or videos of where things went wrong when you’ve just failed to win at home for the 21st time in succession.

Yet for Nicky Hayen it will be incredibly important in what he’ll no doubt feel is still the relative infancy of his tenure.

Regardless of how deep into his three-year contract he is, the facts are that Burnley are in the bottom three of the Championship, and if they’re there in May then they’ll be playing third-tier football for the first time in nigh-on 30 years.
