Statistics are well and good, but it's points Burnley need, not xG

Statistically, Burnley's performance against Portsmouth on Saturday was respectable, but it was worth only one point, which simply isn't enough in the current predicament.

The Fabio Celstini era got off to a solid, if uninspiring, start on Saturday as Burnley played out a 0-0 draw at home to Portsmouth.

There were positives there to take for the Clarets, who impressed in the first half before stagnating somewhat after the break.

But for all the positives, it’s still over a year since Burnley won a home league game, and the club are still rooted in the bottom three ahead of two tricky away games in the coming week.

That game being Celestini’s first in charge after limited preparation time is a huge caveat which has to be heavily considered when analysing the result. But results are what matter for this football club now, and another failure to get one begs the question of just where the next win comes from.
