Hayen on bench v Lincoln

Double sessions, player sales and training ground bust-ups - where did it all go wrong for Nicky Hayen?

Saturday night saw the inevitable confirmed at Burnley, as Nicky Hayen was finally relieved of his duties following a dismal start to the Championship campaign.

Hayen departs with the Clarets rooted in the bottom three following last season’s relegation from the Premier League, with the search for a new manager already under way.

It’s always felt like something of an uphill battle for Hayen since his appointment, largely owing to it being apparent for weeks now that the players aren’t overly keen on playing for him.

A distinct lack of endeavour across the board was a damning indictment of how the players viewed the Belgian, but players don’t get sacked, managers do, and the buck stops with him.
