Burnley Women were unable to turn their recent poor form around at the Progress with Unity Stadium against a Manchester United side who came into this game as strong favourites, having lost just one of their last nine games.

The Clarets, however, came into the game with just one win in all competitions so far this season, which came against Durham in this competition.

Manchester United certainly had the better of Burnley in recent meetings, having beaten them twice by an aggregate score of 11–0, and tonight wasn’t much better for the Clarets.

The home side nearly had the perfect start just seven minutes in when the Clarets tried to build out from the back but gave the ball away. Griffiths fired a shot goalwards, but it was blocked by a Burnley player.
